Ontario Autism Program: Urgent Response Service

Urgent response services in the Ontario Autism Program (OAP) began offering services in April 2022.

Eligible children and youth who are experiencing a specific, urgent need can access supports to:

  • help stabilize the situation

  • prevent crisis

  • reduce the risk of the child or youth harming themselves, others and property

Children and youth can get up to 12 weeks of free supports.

Urgent response services do not provide funding to purchase supports. Children and youth registered in the OAP can access urgent response services while receiving other OAP services and supports.

Developmental Services Ontario (DSO)

The DSO is your access point for adult developmental services funded by the Ministry of Children, Community and Social Services (MCCSS) in Ontario. At the age of 18, your child’s developmental services through the Ontario Autism Program end. Which means you must apply through the DSO to see if you are eligible to receive Ministry of Children, Community and Social Services (MCCSS) funded supports available in Milton.

Parents are encouraged to contact the DSO as soon as their child turns 16 to see if they are eligible for services. By starting the application process early, you may be able to avoid service delays when your child turns 18. The DSO will help you determine the supports that are available in Milton.

Disability Tax
Credit (DTC)

The disability tax credit (DTC) is a non-refundable tax credit that helps persons with disabilities or their supporting persons reduce the amount of income tax they may have to pay. The purpose of the DTC is to provide for greater tax equity by allowing some relief for disability costs, since these are unavoidable additional expenses that other taxpayers don’t have to face.
